nuella.
nuella.
A small hair salon planned in Tomigaya, in the so-called “Oku-Shibu” area.
Set slightly apart from the bustle around Shibuya Station, it sits in a neighborhood where a more composed and mature atmosphere can be enjoyed.
The name “nuella.” is a coined word combining Portuguese and Korean.
Rather than defining it too precisely, it retains only a loose nuance — a place where one can value their own individuality.
In designing the space, we intentionally avoided imposing a rigid concept,
leaving room for each visitor’s own perception and interpretation.
The salon consists of a single cutting station.
In response to the scale of the neighborhood, it is composed as a private space with an intimate and quiet sense of distance.
The interior draws on a balance often seen in Korean spaces,
where softness and sharpness coexist.
A palette of nuanced colors is used as a base, punctuated with black elements to tighten the space.
At the counter, a vintage sideboard is repurposed,
paired with a softly rounded sink to create an ambiguous texture not found in off-the-shelf products.
Rather than defining the space through a strong concept,
it is intended to gently align with each individual’s mood and sensibility,
gradually becoming a place of its own.
nuella. is a minimal vessel for that purpose.
