HOUSE M
A 30-year-old wooden house of approximately 70 square meters.
When I first visited the home—its split-level floor gently sinking toward the street—the openings cut along the roof slope revealed the lingering intentions of its original designer.
The renovation began by shifting the center of daily life to the sunlit second floor. The kitchen, formerly located downstairs, was relocated to create a spacious LDK where the family now spends most of their time. Light and sightlines flow naturally through the space, forming an open and unencumbered foundation for living.
The attic had once contained a substantial amount of storage, but it exceeded what the clients sought for their more minimal way of living. We chose to dismantle it entirely, exposing the structure to dispel the preconceived image of an ordinary second-hand house and to recover the inherent spaciousness of the building.
Materials were kept to a minimum, with close attention paid to texture: wool carpet, diatomaceous earth plaster, and custom elements in black walnut. Their calm, tactile presence imparts a quiet depth to the interior.
Throughout the space, furniture designed by the client sits comfortably alongside timeless classics, creating a balanced and understated harmony.
